PDF/OBJECTS
Organized by artists Jason Lazarus (Florida) and Sean Ward (New York), this installation marks the debut exhibition of PDF/OBJECTS, a curated collection of artist selected text-object pairings. This growing anthology features over 50 artists from across the country and is an invitation into each artist’s thinking and practice–an embodied library, a sculptural field–each object a footnote to the text, and vice versa.
PBS Art Assignment
Mana Contemporary Chicago’s visiting resident artist, Hugo Crosthwaite, will unveil a mural created as part of his upcoming PBS Art Assignment feature, Exquisite Corpse. The floor-to-ceiling work was made in collaboration with eight artists: Miguel Aguilar, Candida Alvarez, Katherine DesJardins, Eric J. Garcia, Rodrigo Lara, David Leggett, Chema Skandal, and Diana Solis. Throughout the evening, Crosthwaite will be present to talk about the mural’s process and demonstrate how to make your own “exquisite corpse.”
High Concept Laboratories presents: Up to the Elbows
Elise Cowin’s movement performance Up to the Elbows draws inspiration from two sources: historical patents for inventions that attempted to bestow the body with extraordinary capabilities such as flight, and Cervantes’ Don Quixote, which muses on how the fictional and the fantastic collide with and shape our everyday reality.
To Separate Two Things
To Separate Two Things, created and performed by Jessica Cornish and Lia Kohl, is a durational movement work for two masked performers. It is simultaneously an exploration of what it means to be a self and a meditation on the act of being present.
Color Me
Grab some markers, a glass of wine or beer, and join us for Mana's first "adult coloring group." Artists at Mana such as Candida Alvarez, Assaf Evron, David Leggett, and the Floating Museum team, Faheem Majeed and Jeremiah Hulsebos-Spofford, have all created original illustrations for guests to color-in. At the end of the evening, take your work home or trade with friends.
