Not a " Shake and Bake " place.

5 years later it's still going strong. How does a gay bar improve with age? Let me count the ways. 1) Great staff. Like Boy Scouts, they're helpful, kind, and courteous. If you want pretty, go to Minibar. If you want good service, come here. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) Diverse clientele. I'll admit, I'm more likely to be here on a weeknight than a weekend, 'cause I can't stand the crowds. But young and old, city and suburb, thin and fat, male and female, gay and straight, everyone is welcome at Chix. And it shows in ... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) A noticeable lack of attitude. Nuff said. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) Fab decor. Tons of original art and photography, and no it's not for sale. Vintage strippers, naked men with purses, and indeed, big chicks, they're all on the walls. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) Specials, specials, specials. Not just drink specials, but buck burgers on Monday nights, euchre on Weds, Homolatte (a music and spoken word series) on the first and third Tuesday of the month, free Sunday bbq, and on and on and on. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) Michelle Fire. Yes, I buried the lead. She's the owner and grand doyenne, the original Big Chick. She created a bar she would want to hang out at, and has kept it that way for longer than some of her customers have been alive. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I could easily continue this list to 10 -- or 50 (I haven't even mentioned the weekend dance parties or the backyard patio), but you get the idea. For many years, Big Chicks was my Cheers. I'm no longer its Norm, but it still feels like a place where everybody knows my name.---------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

One of my favorites

I was just reminded yesterday how much I love Big Chicks. I went there for the free, yes free, Sunday BBQ. You buy some drinks, give Dave who makes the food a tip when you get your plate, and enjoy Sunday afternoon. I have been coming here for almost 7 years now and always have fun. Other great reasons to go: a down-to-earth crowd, dollar burgers on Monday, fun theme nights, good drinks, friendly staff and Michelle the amazing owner. This place is truly a gem!

This place is not so "Big"

I love...LOVE this place. It is small and clean. Tucked away in Lincoln Park area. The people were nice, fun to talk to and easy going. A must stop for all out of towners. Order just simple drinks, or know what is in "your drink"...they were not too sure how to make some drinks/shots.

A lovely time was had by all

I have been in 15 cities in the last six months and I now love Chicago. Of all the places my lover and I visited yesterday this one is my favorite. The staff was friendly, fun, and prompt. Michelle rocks! As an owner, a hostess, and a lady she made my lover and I feel welcomed and at ease as well as giving us advice on where to go and what to do in Chicago. I nominate it as a best first stop to any newcomer or visitor to Chicago.

I LOVE BIG DICKS..OOOPS..BIG CHICKS..get the freudian slip..people think this is a lesbian bar when they hear the name. but it's a great atmosphere compared to sidetracks or roscoes in boystown. the location isnt the best but overall on friday and saturdays i loved dancing at this bar. the art hanging was amazing and i commend the owner for her efforts.
