The Haitian American Museum of Chicago and the University of Chicago Department of History are proud to present " Vwa Yo Apre Matye- Voices After Matthew" This exhibit brings together original art and oral histories by four artists from the Les Cayes region of Haiti. Through their paintings and stories, they reflect on the devastation and recovery after the category 5 storm Hurricane Matthew hit the island on October 4, 2016.
Come join our opening night and explore not only the impact of this disaster, but the resilience of the survivors, and the complicated recovery process that defies the simplified stereotypes too often seen in news coverage of Haiti. All donations at the exhibit will go to the artists themselves to help them continue their work.
The exhibit will be open until September 22 for those who cannot make the opening. We look forward to seeing you there and sharing these powerful stories with our community.
If you have any questions, we encourage you to email us at info@hamoc.org. Public metered parking or street parking. Parking may be available across HAMOC at the Buddhist Temple for a small donation.
