This will be the second meeting for the Chicago Intersectionality Action Committee, a few topics we will be discussing:
1) What we have learned, participated in, organized, etc since the last meeting. Members at the last get together set specific goals regarding what they were trying to accomplish prior to this meeting. We will be discussing this as well.
2) Members who are organizing a letter-writing/art gifting campaign to boost morale at various groups who ultimately have a rough fight ahead of them will be implementing their plan to start a letter/art drive.
3) Action planning for inauguration day. Who will be protesting in Chicago vs Washington? Are any individuals interested in a ride share to DC?
4) Moving forward and next steps: How do we plan as a group to uphold and protect one another as marginalized individuals and their allies on a hyper-local level? What are our immediate action steps vs long term plans to maintain our safe and diverse communities?
5) Volunteer drive: As a group, we are trying to get as many people as possible volunteering at organizations that have a track record of defending those who face oppression, either financially or with time. We will be orchestrating volunteer shift sign-ups at this meeting and assisting those who may need help doing so.
We are EXTREMELY grateful to Schuba's for allowing us to use their upstairs space, equiptment, etc. This was an immensely generous offer that they made. Come and go as you please. You do not need to be present for the entire meeting if you cannot be. Please keep in mind that we will have to watch our capacity, which is 100 people. We will have people coming in and out throughout the entire meeting, but space is limited, so please come early if you are interested! Due to being a historical building, there is no elevator to the upstairs area, so accesibility is limited, if you have mobility limitations, please reach out and we can see what can be done to accommodate you. Our hope is that we will be able to obtain a more accessible space in the future. The meeting will be in the upstairs space of Schuba's and the bar will be open for those interested!
A $5 suggested donation for future events, rental spaces, helping pay for childcare of members so that they may attend the meeting, etc. is appreciated, but not required, no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
Additionally, our agenda is not concrete, so feel free to bring your own topics and issues that you would like to discuss with the group. If you are also unable to attend due to a prior engagement or work, email us at intersectionalityactionchi@gmail.com to get on our mailing list with regular updates and notes from our meetings.
