SAIC Performance department Presents: Graduate Lecture Series TWO of THREE: Mev Luna + Emilio Rojas @ MC1307 4:15 - 6:00
Charged by the politics of dematerialization within the contemporary technological landscape, Mev Luna elevates the body as central ground for ancestral remembering. Using video installation, lecture performance, and digital media, Luna draws on critical race theory and latinx hybridity to create alternative epistemologies.
Emilio Rojas (ca.1985, Mexico City) is a multidisciplinary artist, working primarily with the body in performance using film, video, photography, installation, public interventions and sculpture. Rojas utilizes his body in a political & critical way, as an instrument to unearth removed traumas, embodied forms of decolonization, migration, mourning & poetics of space. Besides his artistic practice, Emilio is also a yoga teacher, translator, community activist and anti- oppression facilitator with queer, migrant and refugee youth. He has performed/exhibited in the US, Mexico, Canada, Japan, Austria, England, Greece, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Australia. Rojas is represented by Galeria Jose de la Fuente in Spain, and Gallleriapiu in Italy.
Each lecture will be around 20 minutes with 10 minutes for questions.
