Hello Friends -
THIS IS NOT AN EVENT TO ATTEND. Instead, I'd like to ask for your charitable pledge as I bowl for an important and very personal cause. As many of you know, I lost a best friend, Brian Betts, in 2010 to gun violence, but more importantly, the educational community in the Washington DC Schools System and throughout the greater DC area lost a promising, impactful, amazing principal and educator. Since his death, the BKB (Brian K Betts) Foundation for Educational Enrichment has provided scholarships, funded college campus visits, and hosted educational and community opportunities to continue his impact and his vision that students in troubled schools continue to have high expectations and hopes for themselves.
This year will be special: while the main bowling fundraiser is happening in the DC area, I plan to bowl here in Chicago alongside another best friend of mine and of Brian's: Doug Nelson. We both bowled and played volleyball with Brian, road tripped together with him countless times, enjoyed regular poker nights, and basically were like family to each other ... "Brews Brothers." Bowling together for Brian and his foundation will be a great opportunity for Doug and I to enjoy memories of Brian while raising money for a great cause. Please consider pledging. You can Facebook message me, call me, email me, or comment/respond to this Event Page, and we can arrange HOW you'd like to donate. We plan to bowl three games each. You can pledge based on our pin total, the number of strikes, the number of spares, or even the number of open frames! You can also simply pledge an amount, Every little bit will help. Once we have bowled, we will post our relsuts and let you know how you can provide your tax-deductible donation.
Thank you, and in case you'd like to learn more, I will post some information on the foundation in other areas of this event. Meanwhile, I will copy and paste here the Foundation's mission statement:
MISSION STATEMENT
"The Brian K. Betts Foundation promotes academic excellence and educational enrichment for students and faculty who seek to improve and progress in their education or career. Brian Betts’ legacy as an educator and administrator is best remembered through an often-repeated message to his students and staff: “I will NOT let you be average.” By funding scholarships, awards, and grants for educational activities and professional educational programs, the BKB Foundation will meet its paramount goal for those students or faculty who seek academic or professional improvement."
