VITO: Free Film Screening Monday Night

Activist VITO RUSSO – whose bronze memorial will join the Legacy Walk this fall – was not only the acclaimed film historian who brought us the iconic “Celluloid Closet” lecture series, book, and film. He was also the co-founder of two of the most important organizations in LGBTQ History: ACT-UP (AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power) and GLAAD (Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation). Few people in the complex arc of LGBTQ+ activism have had a more lasting impact. Russo’s sacrifices are still being felt today in nearly every facet of our existence. The Legacy Project, Center on Halsted, and Northalsted Business Alliance are proud to present the next installment of our popular Legacy LIVE Series – “VITO” – in conjunction with our presenting partner, The Queer Film Society. This rarely screened, award-winning documentary, chronicles the extraordinary life, turbulent times, and vital contributions of VITO RUSSO.
