After more than 10 grueling years of prolifically creating comedy in L.A. and Chicago, gay sasquatch/clearance rack floral blazer John Loos has finally been invited to perform at a coveted, all-important SNL Showcase.
However, the pressure of auditioning for Lorne Michaels and various SNL producers may prove too much for Loos as he his blinded by ambition and the desire to see his dream of being on SNL come true, and begins to lose his grip on reality.
Part Moby Dick, part Apocalypse Now, part Stephen Sondheim's Company, John Loos' SNL Showcase explores the stranglehold the SNL dream has on the Chicago comedy world, being an outsider in a comedy system created by outsiders, being the "right" kind of gay, and what happens when you abruptly discover the limits of your own talent.
Will John Loos be the next Laura Kitelinger? Or will he be the next obscure Chicago comedian to "move on" to something else, like the suburbs or a job in advertising? And will he ever be the right kind of gay?
