Girl Group explores resistance through pop music. What does it mean to resist sonically? AMANDA GUTIERREZ
Born in Mexico City in 1978. She completed his graduate studies at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, specializing in Performance and new media. In Mexico studied his undergraduate studies in Stage Design at the INBA ENAT.
For twelve years, she has worked in the field of performance and sound art, fusing the two disciplines in installation projects. Among the video series are made: “A brief history of fictions†, which consists of four projects, performed under the same methodology and work strategies from documentary and performance. This series has won two awards: The Fellowship Competition 2007 and CAAP 2008, and was selected as artist finalist for national award Artadia Art Chicago 2009.
In 2011 she developed the video series “Topographies of Timeâ€, supported by the Program Development and Cultural Conversions FONCA 2011. This series has been exhibited in museums, contemporary art internationally, such as: The Windor Gallery in Madrid, Spain, Khiasma Gallery in Paris, France, Move Forward Festival in Halle, Germany, Liverpool Art Biennale 2012 in the UK , Ex Teresa Arte Actual in Mexico City, Mexico and Action Art Actuelle in Montreal, Canada.

BILLIE JEAN HOWARD
Billie Howard is a Chicago-based pianist, violinist and educator. She is inspired by contemporary music on the farthest ends of the volume spectrum, ranging from the quietest sounds to fully-amplified extremes. She frequently works in collaboration, often with one of her groups: the post-rock “Baroque-core†band The Paver, acoustic experimental improvisation group NbN Trio, post-Cage new music ensemble a.peri.od.ic, and the 20 piece, all-female Girl Group Chicago.
In demand as a freelance violinist and pianist, she has performed with Wrekmeister Harmonies, Bobby Conn, Palomar, Chicago Composer’s Orchestra, Liam Davis, Lykanthea, Very Truly Yours, The Rutabega, Matthew Shelton, the Heritage Chorale of Oak Park and Classical Revolution. An active session musician, she has been featured on studio recordings by American Idol winner Lee DeWyze, Grammy-nominated children’s artist Justin Roberts and many other recording artists. Billie also works for Homeroom, a non-profit whose mission is to design artistic projects and programs that elicit conversation and collaboration.
In her spare time, she likes to make short films and take photos of musicians and their work spaces for her blog and podcast, By Measure. She holds degrees in piano and violin performance from Montana State University and Northwestern University.
