The Illinois Family Institute is planning its final anti-equal rights protest of this legislative session on Saturday, May 18 in front of Rep. Silvana Tabares's office at 2458 S. Millard Avenue in Chicago's Little Village neighborhood.
The Association of Latino Men for Action (ALMA), La Voz de los de Abajo, the Gay Liberation Network, The Civil Rights Agenda and other pro-equal rights individuals and organizations are organizing a counter-protest for equal rights beginning at 10:30 AM at this same location.
With Illinois's legislative session ending on May 31st, this Saturday is one of the last opportunities to publicly demand that the Illinois's House of Representatives pass our state's equal rights bill. The House, and in particular, Speaker Mike Madigan, has a particular responsibility to pass this bill now.
Not only will it benefit countless Illinoisans, but with the U.S. Supreme Court set to rule on the anti-gay Defense of Marriage Act and California's Proposition 8 by the end of June, it is important that Illinois join the ranks of states demanding legal equality and hence push the Court towards a better decision.
