Pride Fest is up and running from 3-10pm on June 26th and 11am-10pm on the 27th at Halsted & Waveland. The parade is Sunday, June 28th at noon. The parade starts at the corner of Halsted & Belmont, proceeding north on Halsted, then south on Broadway, and finally east on Diversey to Cannon Drive, in Lincoln Park. If that sounds confusing, just follow the half naked men and drag queens in front of you – you’ll find your way.
Lincoln Park is Chicago’s largest public park, and you’ll enjoy serene views of the lake if you take time to explore it after the festivities. It’s sure to be packed with participants and spectators from the parade, so make a friend or five. Plan ahead for the weather – know that whatever you wear will be drenched in sweat by day’s end, but if you’re continuing into the evening you’ll want something (or someone) warm to put on. In general, bask in the warmth of people coming together in pride.
[Public transportation is encouraged as the best way to get to the festival [CTA Red Line "L" (Belmont, Addison stops) or Brown Line "L" (Belmont). If you must drive try parking in the neighborhoods west of Wrigley Field. Just remember where you left the car!]
